While we love to watch and read stories of people enduring greatly and overcoming all obstacles to cross territories and borders on foot, on bicycles or hitchhiking from the most fertile forests to the most rugged deserts, we must all wonder what is it that lights our soul on fire? Do we also need to put on your hiking boots like Cheryl Strayed and pave the Pacific Crest Trail alone or canoe our way down a wooshing waterfall into grade 5 rapids or heck are we required to go off the limits and climb a vertical 3000 ft rock like Alex Honnold?
I haven't added the mountaineering feats of Nirmal Purja or base jumping legends here but you get the point.
What is our ultimate adventure?
Right now, as I look outside of the window of my room sipping coffee and typing in what is supposed to be an impromptu writeup, it clicks to me that the ultimate adventure doesn't necessarily have to be outdoors for everyone. Of course, the outdoors and nature provide you with levels of challenges to embark upon, your adventure might be something else. The legends above didn't just risk their lives for the sake of proving themselves to others or their own selves, I don't believe that. I believe there has to be a much larger purpose, something that has led their footprints behind and have us admiring and inspired and frankly I feel they were well aware of it. Imagine the K2 bottleneck or the Boulder problem at El Cap, something deep burns inside a person to be sane enough to tackle those life and death situations which might be something bigger than these people, a larger purpose, that leads to a world of possibilities, breaking mental barriers and building a better world.

You might be sitting on your computer coding daily in an MNC and still be content, but don't you think that App you've always wanted to build in your own start-up company for hassle free living or a farmer who strives to bring in nutritious food to the end customer in order to enhance their health and well being are things that are bigger than you yourself? Don't you think these goals go beyond just enhancing your own lives but make the world a better place to live in? That is exactly where your ultimate adventure lies.
It is one thing to just think of an idea, another beast of a task to act on it, because while acting on that grand idea of yours you will find grave challenges in so many shapes and sizes beyond high mountains and ultramarathons and it is then one has to contain themselves in order to see their dreams through. How would we do that? By keeping in mind these legends who have set new heights for human potential and possibilities and who endured greatly to leave their names in history.
I am sure you are now thinking of your own life's ultimate adventure. I surely am :), but if you seek something beyond yourself, you might as well make the required sacrifices and endure to break the shackles of normality and sometimes be on your own for years to finally find a breakthrough.
May you serve the world through your ultimate adventure !
